About The Norton Davis Band

The Norton Davis Band is a creative music and storytelling project inspired by more than fifty years of my life in the music world.

During those years, I have had the privilege of experiencing music from many different perspectives. I have served as a worship leader, performed bluegrass, folk, protest, country, and country rock music, worked as a concert promoter, organized and produced a four-day outdoor music festival, and worked as a recording engineer. Each of these experiences has introduced me to remarkable people and unforgettable moments that have shaped my life.
The stories, songs, artwork, photography, and characters you will find here are works of fiction. They are not intended to portray actual people or document historical events. Instead, they are inspired by real-life experiences, emotions, conversations, and lessons learned over a lifetime devoted to music.

The songs featured throughout this project are original compositions, with original lyrics and music inspired by those experiences. While the voices used to perform these songs are created with the assistance of modern technology, the songwriting, musical concepts, arrangements, creative direction, and artistic vision are entirely my own. The voices are simply another creative tool that allows these fictional characters to come to life and share the stories they were created to tell.

One of the primary reasons I chose to tell these stories and write these songs through fictional characters is to protect the identities and privacy of the many musicians, friends, families, promoters, volunteers, and others whose lives have intersected with mine over the years. While many situations are rooted in genuine experiences, the names, personalities, timelines, relationships, and events have been creatively reimagined. My intention is not to deceive anyone into believing these fictional characters are real people. Rather, my hope is to preserve the truth of the experiences while respecting the privacy of those who inspired them.

Music has always been more than a performance. It has been a way to build friendships, strengthen communities, share faith, encourage others, express joy and sorrow, and tell stories that connect us as human beings. Whether leading worship in a church, performing on stage, promoting concerts, producing a music festival, recording artists in the studio, or simply sharing songs with friends, I have come to believe that every musician has a story worth telling—and every song has a story behind it.

The Norton Davis Band is my way of bringing those experiences together into one creative world. Through fictional characters, original songs, visual art, storytelling, photography, and music, I hope to capture the spirit of the people, places, and moments that have made the music community such an important part of my life.

This project is also my way of honoring the countless musicians, volunteers, promoters, audiences, churches, friends, and families whose paths have crossed mine over the years. Although their identities remain private, the impact they have had on my life is woven throughout these stories and songs. In many ways, this is a tribute to all of them.

My hope is that these stories and songs will entertain, encourage, and inspire you. Perhaps you’ll recognize pieces of your own journey in the characters, the lyrics, or the experiences they share. If that happens, then The Norton Davis Band has accomplished exactly what I set out to create—a fictional world that reflects the very real experiences, relationships, and values that have shaped a lifetime in music.
